Throughout the entire process of creating this body of work, I worked with surrealistic imagery, using symbolic images to create enigmatic yet engaging works.

My work explores topics of identity, feminism and self-image, using the portraits subject as a stand in for my own body as well as the viewer’s.

I gleaned the imagery from objects found in folklore, dreams, childhood memories and collected personal objects. I drew on the rich history of folklore and mythology as a storytelling structures in which to frame my works as fragments of untold stories.

My goal in creating this body of work is to express my own experiences and stories through my work. Surrealism as a visual language allows me to create meaning through symbolism, allowing for multiple layers of interpretation. My work embraces ambiguity, complex enough to engage the viewer, yet not so obscure as to make it inaccessible.
